Edval’s training sessions are designed to introduce new users to our software. The sessions are part demonstration and part hands-on activities, with lots of Q&A time with the trainers. Morning tea and lunch are provided at all sessions.
Training OverviewEdval offers a 3 day Effective Timetabling course for Secondary school timetablers, a 1 day Edval Daily for Administrators course, as well as various workshops throughout the year.
Effective TimetablingIt is recommended that schools send at least two people to the Effective Timetabling course. Participants must bring their own laptop with them to all training days. The laptop must be running the Windows operating system.
D1 Timetable Essentials
This is the first day of the Effective Timetabling course and introduces the user to the Edval timetable program, providing a broad understanding of it. This training promotes confidence and competence in your ability to understand the software and edit your timetable requirements. Topics covered include:
Participants will not be allowed to enrol in D2 Timetable Development and D3 Timetable Construction until they have completed this course.
This course is best completed as early as possible in the school year, to allow time to implement learning in your own school file prior to attending D2 Timetable Development.
D2 Timetable Development
Prerequisite: D1 Timetable Essentials
This is the second day of the Effective Timetabling course and focuses on developing a new timetable for the following year. Topics covered include:
Participants will not be allowed to enrol in D3 Timetable Construction until they have completed D1 Timetable Essentials and this course.
This course is best completed prior to commencing the subject selection process for the following school year.
D3 Timetable Construction
Prerequisite: D1 Timetable Essentials & D2 Timetable Development
This is the third and final day of the Effective Timetabling course and covers most of the tools and techniques that you will need when constructing a timetable automatically in Edval. Topics covered include:
It is expected that participants will bring their own school file with them.
This file should be at ‘Champagne bottle’ stage, or in the final stages leading up to this where problems exist that you would like help in solving.
Edval Daily for Administrators
This is a one day course, aimed at training users in Edval Daily. Topics covered include:
This is a two day course for Primary School timetablers. The first day (P1) introduces the Edval timetable software, and covers data entry. This training promotes confidence and competence in your ability to understand the software and edit your timetable requirements. Topics covered include:
The second day (P2) includes the tasks associated with the timetable using the Edval tools. Topics covered include:
Aurora College Online Course
This is an online video course open to teachers whose schools are partners with Aurora College. It outlines what is required to prepare your timetable file to align with the requirements for Aurora College’s grid structure. This course takes approximately 3 hours and can be done in small time slots whenever it suits you.

Successfully completing the entire course will contribute 3 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Registered PD addressing standard descriptors 6.2.2 and 7.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
Line Generation & Ctrl-Q Workshops
These 1 day workshops offer an opportunity for the timetabling team to have dedicated time to work on the school timetable with an Edval consultant in a small group scenario. Schools can have their questions answered and receive assistance with their school file.
Line Generation workshops cover advanced timetable construction techniques, while Ctrl-Q workshops cover fault finding in timetable requirements.
Workshops are not included as part of the basic three day Effective Timetabling course, but are charged at the same rates, that is $530 + GST.
Dates & CostsOur training sessions are held frequently around the country. Only one booking to be submitted per person. If an alternate date/location/product is required, please indicate your preference on the Booking Form. Cost per day is $530 + GST (unless quoted otherwise) which includes morning tea and lunch. Participants are expected to arrive at 8:30am for a 9am start.
